45 Active Schools Awarded Progress Incentives

Washington, DC | News Story

Forty-five schools from across the country are being celebrated for their progress in creating an Active School environment and have been selected to receive physical education/physical activity equipment, materials and training to help applaud and support their efforts.

“We know that changing a school culture is no easy feat, so it is important to celebrate improvement and incremental successes along the way,” said Charlene Burgeson, Let’s Move! Active Schools Executive Director.

“Thanks to the generosity of our Partners, Let’s Move! Active Schools can recognize schools making active and healthy changes and reward them with additional physical education and physical activity resources to help continue their great work.”

In October, Let’s Move! Active Schools announced the launch of its progress incentives program thanks to six of its Partners: Adventure to Fitness, Focused Fitness, GenMove USA, Gopher, SHAPE America, and S&S Worldwide.

To be eligible to win, a school must have made improvements in at least one area of its Let’s Move! Active Schools Action Plan and note this success by marking the item complete. Then, all eligible schools are entered into a quarterly drawing and randomly selected.

Of the 298 schools that marked an Action Plan item complete during the first quarter of the program (September 1- November 30, 2015),  45 schools were randomly selected to receive a progress incentive, meaning that 15% of all eligible schools received a prize. During the 2015-16 academic year, 150 schools in total will be awarded a progress incentive.

Other progress incentive periods are:

  • December 1, 2015 – February 29, 2016
  • March 1-May 31, 2016
  • June 1-August 31, 2016
